Notes
- Students in this major are interdisciplinary and will be a part of both the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics and he S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
- Esports majors do not follow the Newhouse or Falk A&S core, rather they follow a specifically designed blended A&S core.
- Students have 22 A&S elective credits. They can choose to take any A&S course or declare an 18 credit A&S minor to fulfill this requirement.
- The list of A&S electives are suggested but students are not required or limited to taking the listed courses.
- The University’s IDEA requirement is satisfied by taking SPM 245.
- Students must complete a grammar competency as part of their degree requirements. There will be two ways students can satisfy this competency:
- First, by passing a grammar competency exam during their first semester on campus. The exam will be given twice – once before the end of the first week of classes and a second time prior to registration the next semester. A passing grade on the exam will fulfill the competency requirement.
- Secondly, by passing COM 101, a 0-credit remedial grammar course which will be mandatory for students who fail the grammar competency exam. This course can be repeated until a passing grade is earned and the competency is met.
- Students cannot internally transfer from this major into another Newhouse major without having taken COM 107 Communications & Society.
- It is strongly recommended that all students except those in the Esports Media & Design track take COM 107 Communications & Society as one of their open elective credits. It is strongly recommended that students it the Esports Media & Design track take VIS 457 User Interface and User Experience, VIS 467 Immersive Design and CIN 503 Virtual Production to fulfill their six credits of open electives and three credits of track electives.
- Tracks. Students are strongly encouraged to declare their track of study when they enter the major, however must declare by the end of their sophomore year.
- Students in the Esports Business & Management track must declare their track when entering their first semester. These students are required to take MAT 221 Elementary Probability and Statistics and MAT 284 Business Calculus.
- Students in the Esports major can apply up to six credits of internship towards their degree.
- The Global Experience is fulfilled by taking MAX 132 Global Community; however, students are encouraged to go abroad.
- Esports students may not study off-campus for more than one semester.
